Society of Military Widows Chapter 34 held their monthly meeting luncheon at Harbor Palace on Spring Mountain on March 10th. Guest speakers Councilman Richard Cherchio, Shane Persaud from Nevada Consumer Affairs, Denise Elizabeth Ashurst and Vito Valdez from Army Survivor Outreach Services spoke while everyone was enjoying lunch. Councilman Richard Cherchio spoke about how he had been very involved in veteran affairs for many years including how he founded and currently chairs the Armed Forces Military Veterans and First Responders Appreciation Inc, which is a non-profit formed in 2014 to assist military, veterans and their families, and first responders in need during the year. He also invited SMW to come to the Armed Forces Military Veterans & Appreciation Day on Sept 14.
Shane Persaud and Vito Valdez both explained what their organizations do for military widows. Shane told everyone how the mission of Nevada Consumer Affairs educates consumers on how to prevent them from being victims of fraud. Vito Valdez told everyone how the Army Survivor Outreach services provides support and services to the military. Denise Elizabeth Ashurst, Founder and President of Pride in Purity International Ministries talked about her organization’s golf tournament on May 4th.
SMW Chapter 34 has a luncheon meeting every other month’s second Sunday. The next meeting is scheduled on May 12th 11am at Harbor Palace. $13.00 per person (includes tax and tip) 9 course meal, including water and regular hot tea; iced tea or any other beverage is at your own cost. Feel free to bring any guests, guests are always welcome.
