Music-loving students and members of the military now have access to discounted Pandora Premium plans, the company announced in a blog posttoday (May 7).
The newly-introduced Pandora Student and Pandora Military plans offer the full array of premium features, like listening with no ads, playlist-making and unlimited skips, at a more affordable price point — though not the same one.
Students will now pay just $4.99 per month for those features, roughly half the price of a regular $9.99 per month Premium account. Those with qualified military status will pony up slightly more, with plans charging $7.99 per month.
While the Student Plan is available to eligible students for up to four years, the Military Plan is offered to active duty service members, reservists, retirees, veterans and military family. Both options include a 60-day free trial, and require a verification process.
The new plans are the latest addition to Pandora’s growing slate of subscription options, on par with Apple Music, Tidal and Spotify, which also offer discounted student plans. Neither Apple Music nor Spotify offer military plans, though Tidal cuts its premium service down to $5.99 for military.
Pandora also offers a combined $14.99 Premium plan for families of up to six members. In other news for frugal streamers, Spotify recently began testing a cheaper subscription plan for couples.
