Mid-Autumn Moon Festival Celebration – “Tet Trung Thu”, The Vietnamese Legend

The Mid–Autumn Moon Festival is the second most celebrated annual festival by Chinese Americans, Vietnamese Americans, Chinese and Vietnamese all over the world. This year, the Moon Festival falls on September 24th. This was C.A.C.A.’s 4th year Moon Festival event and we had invited the Vietnamese community to participate in this celebration. We featured their Moon Festival known as “Tet Trung Thu” by having all Middle and High School students to participate in the Art competition of a “Carp transforming into a dragon”, a Vietnamese legend of their Mid-Autumn Moon festival.  In addition, we were honored to welcome Clark County School District as our collaborative partner to bring awareness of Asian cultures to our local middle and high school students. The winners were announced and awarded on the Award Day event on Oct 6th at the Flamingo Senior Center. This Judging Night Banquet took place on September 26th, 2018 at KJ Kitchen inside the Rio All-Suites Hotel & Casino, located at 3700 W Flamingo Rd, Las Vegas 89103. It was well attended with over 300 guests ranging from elected officials, political candidates, leaders of the different Minority organizations, business owners, corporate representatives., veterans and representatives from Congress.

C.A.C.A. is the Las Vegas Lodge of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance (C.A.C.A. We, C.A.C.A. of Las Vegas, are unlike many other Asian or Chinese community organizations which are still establishing their credibility in Southern Nevada. We are a 16-year-old Lodge.  Additionally, C.A.C.A is a registered 501(C) 3 and 501(C) 8 non –profit organization. We, the Chinese American Citizens Alliance, believe in being Americans first in order to be Americans together.

The main purpose of this event, besides celebrating our tradition, is also to show that we, American Asians can collaborate, unify and enjoy each other’s’ unique culture by sharing this festivity with mainstream Americans.
